Lighter, Faster Kevlar Canoes

Yes, Kevlar is the same stuff bulletproof vests are made of, but don't shoot our canoes.

Kevlar is an incredible manmade fiber that is stronger than steel. For use in canoes, it is woven into fabric and combined with an epoxy resin. The process is similar to laying up fiberglass, but it uses much less resin. Because Kevlar is so strong, less material is needed for a canoe of the same strength.

And because they are molded, Kevlar-composite canoes can be made in any shape, so they perform better than canoes made of sheet materials. Kevlar canoes are standard with our complete outfit and available with partial outfitting.

The lighter weight and the modern, efficient hull designs of Kevlar canoes have changed wilderness canoeing.

Everyone can appreciate the difference. You can travel long distances quickly or short distances easily in a Kevlar canoe, and be less tired at the end of the day. Even long portages will be easy, allowing you to get into those lakes that are off the beaten path.

Bent-Shaft Paddles

We include wooden bent-shaft or straight paddles with Kevlar canoes because they are light and have a nice feel.

Bent-shaft paddles have a 14-degree bend at the top of the blade, making the blade perpendicular to the water through more of your stroke. Originally used by racers, they make everyday paddling more enjoyable and efficient. The bottom line is that you get more out of each stroke.

Straight wooden paddles are optional.

Kevlar Canoes

18 ft. 6 in. We-no-nah Minnesota II, 45 lb. Our favorite Boundary Waters cruiser.
17 ft. We-no-nah Spirit II, 43 lb. Stable and comfortable for beginners or fishing.
17 ft. Bell Vermont, 39lbs. A larger volume canoe for bigger folks or two adults with a small child or big dog. It has lots of capacity and still handles very well.
20 ft. We-no-nah Minnesota III, 55 lb. Built for three and gear. Fast and fun.
16 ft. Souris River Quetico 16, 39 lbs. A more durable construction and a very versitile boat. Great two smaller paddlers or for one adult and a small child.
20 ft Bell Northshore, 55lbs Big, stable three seater that can even handle four smaller folks. Also holds three big guys and a weeks worth of stuff easily.
16 ft. 6 in. We-no-nah Prism, 33 lb. The ultimate solo wilderness tripper.

Other Canoes

17 ft. Alumacraft aluminum canoes, 66 lb. Stable and durable; the lightest full-size aluminum canoe made.
18 ft. Grumman UL aluminum canoes, 75 lb. Built for three paddlers or two big folks and lots o' gear.
