Hungry Jack Outfitters :: What's Included
All our camping equipment is designed for wilderness canoeing. All our gear is expedition-quality, cleaned, and well maintained. If we wouldn't use it, you won't see it.

Here's a breakdown of what's included in our Complete Outfitting packages:
Boundary Waters Lake
"A Perfect Day in the Boundary Waters"

Planning and Maps

  • Custom trip planning and routing, with special attention to the interests and abilities of those in your group.
  • Your route and points of interest will be detailed on waterproof topographic maps.
  • We also include a compass and map case.

Canoes, Paddles, and Flotation Devices

  • Canoes of Kevlar (39 to 45 lb.), are chosen from our fleet of specialized hull designs. We will help you decide which of our canoes will work best for you. Canoes have padded portage yokes. More about our canoes.
  • With Kevlar canoes, we include wooden bent-shaft paddles from Sawyer and Grey Owl. Straight wooden paddles are available.
  • Our personal flotation devices are from Stearns and come inseveral sizes of the new comfort series.

Going and Returning

  • Transportation to and from whatever Gunflint Trail entry points your trip takes you.
  • One night's overnight accommodations in a private bunkhouse room with breakfast.
  • Hot showers before and after your trip are also included.

Tents, Sleeping Bags, and Such

  • Sleeping bags from Slumberjack, in two temperature ratings, are roomy and extra long.
  • We also have fleece liners for cooler times of the year, as well as kids' bags and other special-application bags.
  • Thermarest self-inflating sleeping pads.
  • Camp chairs -- a real treat at the end of the day.
  • Tents by Eureka (Timberline "2 or 4," Back Country, or Base Camp) with ground cloth.
  • Packs to hold it all, from Granite Gear, Superior, and Cooke, with waterproof liners.

Food, Water, and Cooking Supplies

  • Food you choose from our extensive menu, packed in our special food pack. Good-tasting, lightweight, nutritious meals that won't take forever to prepare. Special dietary requests are usually not a problem, if you give us enough notice. Vegetarian options are readily available.
  • All drinking water comes directly from the lake so there is no need to carry water over portages. We provide several options to make sure your drinking water is safe. We use ultra violet light sterilization as our main method of treatment. The Steri-Pen UV sterilizer is easy, lightweight and effective. We also have Basecamp filters from Katadyn for larger groups. Or if you prefer to boil water we will provide enough fuel. Nothing gets by boiling.
  • Nylon dining fly with paracord for tying. Custom-made and extremely versitile.
  • Cook kit with utensils, dishes, and drinking cups.
  • One- or two-burner stove with enough fuel for all your cooking.
  • Folding saw (splitting hatchet on request).

All the Little Things

  • First-aid kit.
  • Matches.
  • Toilet paper.
  • Extra rope.
  • Trowel.
  • Fire starters.

Permit Reservations

We will make permit reservations for the BWCAW or Quetico Park. After discussing possible routes, we will make reservations and arrangements for your trip. Permits will be issued at our base.

Actual permit fees are not included in package prices. We do not charge to make reservations for guests who are using our services. Permit and camping fees go directly to the USFS and Quetico Park and are used to maintain the BWCAW and Quetico Park.
